Get ready to dive into the fascinating world of natural soap preservation.

The art of preserving natural soaps: easy!

First: keep your natural soap dry!

If there is ONE rule you should follow to preserve your natural soap for as long as possible, it's this one: after each use, gently shake the soap to remove excess water before placing it back on its holder. It is essential to consider the points below to enjoy your natural soap for several weeks:

  • Use a soap dish: to maximize the lifespan of your natural soap, use soap dishes made of materials that allow good air circulation, such as wood, ceramic, or bamboo. These materials allow your soap to dry more effectively. Avoid stagnant water at all costs, never let your natural soap rest in a dish or soap holder where water can accumulate. Stagnant water can quickly degrade the quality of your soap, making it soft, breaking it, and difficult to use. A drying net or a hanging sisal soap dish can also work very well.
  • Soap dish position: place the soap dish in a well-ventilated area of the bathroom, away from direct water jets from the shower or faucet.
  • Soap rotation: regularly turn the soap to ensure even drying and prevent it from softening on one side.
  • Control ambient humidity: in very humid bathrooms, consider using a dehumidifier to reduce the overall humidity in the room or simply move the soaps to another room while they dry.

Long-term soap storage

Let's say you placed a very large order on our site (hehe!!!) or a generous person gave you a Discovery 6-soap set; you will need to store these soaps long-term. If you're like me, you'll want to try them all on the same day.

  • Store in the open air: natural soap, whether used or unused, needs to breathe. Avoid storing it in airtight containers that can retain moisture. Also, do not store wet soaps in closed boxes or plastic bags, as this promotes moisture retention.
  • Protect from heat and direct sunlight: heat and direct sunlight can alter the properties of natural soap ingredients. Store your soap in a cool, dry place, away from excessive heat and UV rays. A cupboard or shelf in a well-ventilated room are ideal choices.
  • Rotate soaps: if you have several natural soaps, use them in rotation. This allows each bar to dry completely between uses, extending their lifespan. You can also enjoy different scents and properties by alternating between your favorite soaps.
  • Very long-term storage: for long-term storage, keep your natural soaps in a dry, dark, and well-ventilated place. You can wrap each bar in waxed paper or parchment paper to protect them from moisture and contaminants. But this is not essential at all. Avoid plastics that can trap moisture and affect the quality of the soap.

Proper storage of your homemade natural soaps is an art that deserves your full attention. By following these simple, yet effective tips, you can fully enjoy our handmade creations for longer.

Remember that the secret to a well-preserved soap lies in a balance between proper drying, judicious storage, and attention to environmental conditions. By keeping your soaps dry, protecting them from direct light and extreme temperatures, and handling them with care, you will preserve not only their appearance but also their precious properties and delicate fragrance.

The beauty of natural soaps lies in their simplicity and purity. Moreover, good preservation helps reduce waste and is perfectly in line with an ecological and sustainable approach. Don't forget that each soap is unique and may require specific adjustments in its preservation method. Don't hesitate to observe how your natural soaps react to different preservation techniques. By adopting these practices, you ensure that each use of your soaps will be as pleasant and beneficial as the first. Take care of your soaps, and they will take care of you in return, offering your skin the best of nature.

Continue to explore, create, and cherish your natural soaps. Your skin will thank you, and so will the planet!
