Natural handmade cold-process soap: what exactly is it?

Unlike hot-process soapmaking methods that involve high temperatures, the cold-process method helps preserve the beneficial properties of the oils. Cold-process soaps are made with vegetable oils, vegetable fats or animal fats, and sodium hydroxide (NaOH). Handled and mixed with care, these simple ingredients become soap after a 6-week cure.

Find here all the reasons to choose natural soaps and skin care products.

Our soaps are made with high-quality ingredients, mostly organic, eco-conscious and fair-trade whenever possible. We favour natural colours from ingredients such as clays, and we avoid soaps with overly bright colours or overpowering scents. For aromas, we use essential oils sparingly rather than synthetic fragrances. We limit essential oils for several simple reasons: their cost — why send a precious oil down the drain? — and the nature of soap itself. The longer a soap ages, the better it becomes, but essential oils evaporate over time. Too much oil can also saturate the soap and affect important qualities such as softness, lather and hydration.

We sometimes use milks in our soap formulas. Usually, they replace all or part of the water. Because of their delicate nature, milks are precious and a little temperamental. However, they leave an incomparable feeling on the skin and a distinct natural aroma. We also make a coffee-based soap and a soap made with aloe vera juice. We love them all!

Main ingredients used in our natural handmade soaps

Natural soaps with colloidal oatmeal

Colloidal oatmeal, whether in fine powder or butter form, soothes and hydrates irritated or sensitive skin, helps relieve itchiness, redness and rashes, and is useful for eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis. It also helps protect the skin from free radicals, which can help prevent premature aging. Our gentle Abella soap is made with oat butter, colloidal oatmeal and honey. Perfect ingredients for the whole family!

Natural clay soaps

We use clay in all its forms: green, white, ghassoul, pink, purple and more. Soothing, exfoliating and purifying, clays are ingredients we absolutely love. In addition to giving products a beautiful earthy and natural colour, clays help revive the complexion by supporting circulation. A little youthful glow, naturally! Several of our soaps contain clay, such as Beth with pink and white clay, Kösem with pink clay and Grace with Brazilian clay.

Natural soaps with shea butter

Unrefined, nourishing, emollient and antioxidant-rich, shea butter gives soaps a rich and creamy feel. Rich in fatty acids and vitamins, shea butter helps protect and comfort dry or damaged skin. All our soaps contain shea butter. We also offer the beautiful whipped Ève shea body butter, which is deeply moisturizing, as well as the Kate body lotion, leaving a soft shea scent on the skin.

Natural soaps with beeswax

Beeswax forms a protective barrier on the skin and helps prevent dehydration. It is a precious ingredient that softens the skin and improves texture. Its antioxidants help protect the skin from free radicals and may help prevent premature skin aging. Our Antoinette soap contains beeswax, as does our honey milk and cherry soy candle Cherry.

Natural soaps with jojoba oil

Gentle, soothing and comforting, jojoba oil is also known for being non-comedogenic, meaning it does not clog pores. This makes it an interesting option for skin that is prone to blemishes. Our Lili and Zehra soaps contain jojoba oil.

Natural soaps with olive oil

Rich in oleic acid, nourishing and softening, olive oil is highly valued in the making of gentle soaps. Well tolerated by sensitive skin, olive oil helps comfort the skin and protect it. All our soaps contain olive oil, especially our men’s soap Sultan.

Natural soaps with coconut oil

Rich and nourishing, coconut oil is very useful in soapmaking because it helps create a harder bar and a generous lather thanks to its lauric acid content. Coconut oil is also an interesting ingredient for household products, such as our all-purpose coconut soap.

Natural soaps with rice bran oil

Rich in fatty acids, rice bran oil is antioxidant-rich and comforting. Some of its compounds can help improve the appearance of an uneven-looking complexion. It is a luxurious oil that supports skin softness. Our gentle Néfertiti soap contains rice bran oil.

Natural soaps with sweet almond oil

Emollient, comforting and nourishing, sweet almond oil is wonderful. A luxurious oil, it helps form a protective barrier on the skin thanks to its fatty acids and antioxidant properties. Our Zehra, Joy and Pasha soaps contain sweet almond oil.

Natural soaps with castor oil

Rich in fatty acids, especially ricinoleic acid, castor oil is found in many soaps. A luxurious oil, it is very emollient and moisturizing, although it may not be ideal for oily or blemish-prone skin. A large portion of our soaps contain castor oil. The soaps below all contain castor oil.

Natural soaps with avocado oil

Avocado oil, rich in fatty acids and vitamins A, D and E, offers intense hydration and deeply nourishes the skin. Its rich, creamy feel helps create soaps with a beautiful texture. Adding avocado oil to natural handmade soaps allows us to create products with exceptional skin benefits. Our Sylvia soap contains it!

Natural soaps with goat milk

Moisturizing, goat milk is rich in fatty acids and vitamins. The lactic acid it contains helps with gentle exfoliation and supports skin renewal. Similar to breast milk, goat milk is usually well tolerated by sensitive skin and skin prone to eczema. Our Séléné and Prince soaps, as well as the sublime Jamila, contain goat milk.

Natural soaps with donkey milk

Very well tolerated by all skin types, donkey milk is rich in vitamins, acids and trace elements, making it very moisturizing and soothing. It is also rich in antioxidants and vitamin A, which support skin renewal. Our Olinw soap is made with Quebec donkey milk — a little luxury in bar form!

Natural soaps with coconut milk

Coconut milk is an excellent natural moisturizer, especially for dry skin. It helps restore and maintain skin hydration thanks to its essential fat content. It is rich in vitamins C and E. Coconut milk acts as a natural antioxidant, helping fight free radicals responsible for premature skin aging. Our Grace, Bahecca, Zehra and Sultane soaps are all made with coconut milk.

Natural soaps with honey

A natural humectant, honey has almost endless benefits. Its soothing and comforting action helps prevent dryness. Honey is also an ally for skin that needs gentle care. Our Abella soap contains a generous amount of honey, giving it its beautiful golden colour.
